Name: Scar
Canon or Non-canon? Canon
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Birthplace: The Pride Lands
Personality: Vicious, cold, and demeaning, Scar is probably the last lion anyone would want to befriend--or make an enemy of, for that matter. Though he's the King of the Pride Lands, he seems to only care for himself, and the problems of his pride don't concern him--unless, of course, it involves a food shortage or a plot against him. He's largely antisocial and spends most of his time in his den, alone, and only makes appearances when he thinks it's necessary. Most of his associates are either the leaders of hyena packs or hunting parties; he sees no need to speak with anyone else.
When he does interact with others, though, his smooth, silver tongue and quick wit is stinging and shocking. He's an eloquent, cunning speaker, and it's all too easy to fall into his traps. To understand the meaning beneath his carefully crafted words, you have to look deep--he relies heavily on symbolism and vague metaphors to get his point across. Plain, blunt speech isn't something that you'll find him using, so if his meaning is crystal clear--watch out.
Scar has loose morals and no qualms with bending or breaking established rules (and it doesn't matter who set them, either). He sees no problem with lying or going so far as to commit murder in order to get what he wants. He is the embodiment of "the means justify the extremes," and is not to be messed with. It would be very, very unwise to stand in the way of something that he wants, because he will go as far as he needs to in order to get what he wants... But he never over does things.
Highly secretive in addition to his deceptive nature, Scar will only provide information that he feels is necessary to any operation. He does his best to make sure no one knows too much, and will even--occasionally--spread lies to prevent suspicion.
Which leads to another important aspect of Scar's personality: he is paranoid. He is always looking over his shoulder, constantly suspecting treason, and plagued with nightmares of usurpers. This is one of the few things he takes too far, and his paranoia will probably be the end of him.
Scar's greatest joys come from suppressing disobedience or defiant spirits. He is strongly legalistic and believes in strict laws. In his eyes, he is the supreme ruler and there is nothing that can combat or challenge him. No adviser or lioness could convince him otherwise.
Physical Description: Scar isn't the most physically attractive lion in the world. Before ranking as King, he would have never even had the fleeting chance of mating--he's thin, a bit lopsided, and physically weak. Not to mention those eyes, creepy and haunted... Not a trait you'd want any pup to inherit.
His fur is a much darker brown than his brothers, and his mane is jet black. A lighter, dustier brown covers his muzzle and his stomach, as well as the pads of his paws. His whiskers are scraggly and uneven, and his mane is thin and isn't as full or bold as one would think a king's should be.
All through his body, it's obvious that he never had the chance to gain much weight, and in a fight he would probably be easily outdone. His face is long and slender, and his features seem almost stretched out unnaturally. His eyes--those are the most terrible part of him--are sickly green and yellow, and the malicious glint that is always there is very unsettling. The scar over his left eye is
He walks lazily and with a slithering sort of grace, though, that seems to contradict all his physical imperfections; he walks like he rules the whole world. Each step looks effortless, and he moves almost without sound... Like a ghost, ominous and dark.
History: When Scar was born, he was the second son to King Ahadi, brother to Mufasa, and his name was Taka. He was always smaller (and he liked to think smarter) than his older brother, and he tried hard--so hard--to impress his father. He loved his father dearly, but he felt that Mufasa was better than he was, stronger, faster, more handsome--everything that Ahadi had wanted in a son.
But that was as a cub. As Taka grew older and became a teenager, he started to hate Mufasa. He hated everything about him, and nothing brought a shadow to his eyes faster than a mention of his brother's name. He started to wander away from Pride Rock and spent more time on his own... And that was when he first met the hyenas.
At first, they hated each other, as all lions and hyenas did. But Taka was lonely and after a while, a dialogue started between him and three of the hyenas he frequently ran into: Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed. Time passed and he became a sort of a leader to them, but they also were able to manipulate him. They were his only friends at this point of his life, and he depended on them (even if he didn't know it).
Over that time, his hatred for his brother increased, and it reached a breaking point when Ahadi canceled a hunting trip with Taka to deal with the drought. Taka was furious, and his rage turned to Mufasa. He turned to his hyena friends, who suggested that he make Mufasa look like a fool. And that's what he set out to do.
He brought Mufasa down to the Watering Hole, claiming that there was an urgent problem that needed to be addressed. He told Mufasa that Boma, a stubborn Cape Buffalo, was refusing to share any water. He hoped the Mufasa would fail in trying to convince Boma to share... But things went awry.
Taka angered Boma, claiming that Boma must either move or face Mufasa in combat. Boma was furious and charged at Mufasa, who ran and found safety with Rafiki. Taka became the target for Boma (and his herd's) anger, and that was the day he received the scar over his eye.
After that day he changed. He asked everyone to call him as Scar, and he calmed down considerably. He slowly took control over his group of hyenas and their power over him faded. His hatred for his brother grew and grew, and it was never worse than on the day his father died.
It was no one's fault, old age took Ahadi. But Scar had loved his father dearly--though he never showed it--and he needed to blame it on someone. His hatred and anger at Mufasa flared up and became hotter than ever before.
After Mufasa was named King and took Sarabi as his mate, bringing Simba into the world, he was already planning. It took a long time for his plans to take hold, yes, but when they did... Things went without a hitch.
With all other claims to the throne wiped out, Scar took the position as King and started to rule the Pride Lands with an iron claw.
