Banzai is not dead, this is the old member's bio for reference for the next member who wants to take him. As with all canons, an audition is mandatory.
Name: Banzai
Canon or Non-canon? Canon
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
Birthplace: Elephant Graveyard
Personality: Representative of the aggresiveness innate in most hyenas, Banzai has a short temper and isn't averse to using his teeth to express any pent up anger he has. Appropriately for someone who flies off the handle with ease, Banzai also has a tendency to act on his emotions without restraint. Planning is not his strong point and he tends to think about the consequences of his actions only after he has already taken them. Lacking any real sense of discipline, he often must be kept in check by those who are superior to him in rank (most often Shenzi).
Banzai isn't one to do things out of respect. If he is acting on someone else's behalf, it is either because he thinks that it will ultimately benefit him as well or it is because he fears retaliation from them. Both of these factors are what leads him to do Scar's bidding. Banzai is a fair-weather friend in most senses of the term. If you don't represent someone who can give him gain, then he will likely not care much for you. Perhaps the only exceptions to this rule are his fellow hyenas Shenzi and Ed, with whom he has a sibling-like relationship. Having grown up with them, he is willing to take more dirt from them than from most other animals.
A lack of self-control and a lack of food can combine to form one of Banzai's biggest flaws: complaining. He does not tolerate hunger well and anyone within hearing range is going to know about it. Anything else that is bugging him, whether it is the weather, the lack of a comfortable place to sleep, or even just a mosquito bite, will also send him on a rant. Again, this is where his superiors will step in to shut him up.
On the flip side, if Banzai is happy, then you probably aren't. He derives pleasure at the expense of others; usually an animal that is smaller than him. Lions are often his target of choice when making jokes or casting insults with his friends. These activities, however, are only secondary in importance to his one true source of happiness: food. Being that Banzai is a predatory animal with an eternally-growling stomach, he will try to make any available animal his lunch. Perhaps he will even combine these two routines; "playing" with his prey before eating it.
Physical Description: Banzai represents a fairly typical spotted hyena in both size and general appearance. His tannish-gray fur is often gritty with the dust and dirt that cover the Elephant Graveyard's ground. Medium brown spots adorn his shoulders and his flanks. A black mane that is bristly and often ungroomed runs from the base of his skull down over his the arch of his back. The feature that sets him apart more than any other are his prominent, unkempt eyebrows. They reveal an expressiveness in his character that anyone within eyesight would notice.
Although he isn't particularly large when compared to most other hyenas, Banzai has developed a strong physique and a powerful body from all of the fights that he has been in. His quickness to anger ensured that he would be toughened up as he quarreled with his brethren over food and other such issues. Even though he is rather durable, his threshold for pain isn't particularly high. Or perhaps it just seems this way as he simply complains about his wounds more than other hyenas would.
History: As with many hyenas of the time, Banzai was born in the Elephant Graveyard to a mother of no notoriety. From his first days, he quickly latched onto his fellow cubs, Shenzi and Ed, and grew to accept them as if they were his own flesh and blood. Even as a cub, his adventures with his two friends would often land him in mischief and trouble. With times as stressful as they were, Banzai's parents could never find the time nor the will to discipline their son properly. Thus, Banzai's bad habits grew and he kept getting into more trouble than ever.
One of the most traumatic events in his life was the loss of his father. After being attacked by Sarafina (Nala's mother) when trespassing in the Pridelands, Banzai's father was killed and subsequently consumed by the lioness. Once news reached Banzai, he developed an increased hatred for lions and a further intolerance to even minor irritations and inconveniences.
As Banzai grew older, he eventually found an uneasy friend in Scar (also known as Taka). Despite being the fact that Scar was a lion, Banzai was willing to befriend him because he always brought food for his hyena friends. In addition to this, Banzai also wondered if Scar might be able to pull some strings to make life easier for him and the other hyenas. It eventually turned out that just such an idea had graced Scar's mind as well. By killing Simba and Mufasa, Scar would become the king of the Pridelands and Banzai would get all the food he could dream of (at least that was the idea). He quickly agreed to the plan.
After a staged stampede, the deed was done and Scar had taken the throne as his own. Banzai was now sure that nothing could go wrong in his life. Now it would remain to be seen if his dream of endless food would solidify in reality or whether Scar had duped him for his own grain.

Other? The relationship between Banzai, Shenzi and Ed is not known. Whether they are true siblings or merely friends has been the speculation of the fandom for quite some time. The most popular opinion seems to be that they are not related. The way they often treat (or mistreat) one-another suggests that they at least act as if they were siblings. Perhaps they are merely step-siblings.
